Piotrek is a major character and vendor in Darkwood.

An eccentric tinkerer, Piotrek is obsessed with space travel. He has amassed a pile of junk in his yard which he dreams of turning into a spaceship.

Piotrek first appears at his home in the Silent Forest, where he has locked himself in his room. Piotrek refuses to open the door until the "beast" in his garage has been dealt with, and only then will he unlock the door and converse with the player.

Piotrek buys items at their original value and sells them for double the price. He is the only character who buys Scrap Metal, in exchange for 5 Reputation per unit.

When killed, Piotrek drops a Bear Trap, Gasoline,Insect (2), a Lantern, and a Watch.

Spaceship Quest Edit

Piotrek would like a hand with his mission of building a fantasy spaceship. To do so, 4 parts from vehicles spread across the world must be retrieved.

Each piece will earn the player 100 reputation when shown to Piotrek. Once the quest is completed, Piotrek rewards the player with 2 Weapon Parts and a Welder and will vanish for the remainder of Chapter 1.

The six existing pieces Piotrek requires are:

After the player has shown him at least one of these items, any of the pieces can also be brought to Wolfman, who will turn it into a bomb to blow up Piotrek with once the quest is completed.

Junkyard - crashed rocket

Piotrek, as seen in Chapter 2.

In Chapter 2, Piotrek will appear in the Junkyard, dead, but carrying plenty of loot. This allows one to speculate that his "rocket" did leave the ground, if not by flight then at least by a powerful explosion, but crashed just a few miles away. The crash will also clear off any creature that would otherwise appears in the junkyard, possibly scared off by the landing.

Epilogue Edit

Alert majorThis section contains major spoilers. Reader discretion is advised.

However, if the Protagonist didn't give all the needed junk items to Piotrek, he survives the burning of the forest and goes back to working on his rocket ship. The only other known characters to survive the burning of the forest are (depending on the quests you do and how you carry them out) the Child, the Musician, some villagers, and possibly Wolfman. Everyone else that we know of (excluding the Bike Man, whose fate is unknown, as well as some of the minor characters) perishes in the fire.

Dialogue Edit

  • First Encounter

"Oops... I didn't hear you come in..."

The boy's eyes are wandering around the room.

"I found this wiggly metal thingy yesterday. It was laying there in the grass... I don't like grass.
It's so slippery and it tickles your feet. Rather than grass, I would prefer... these metal wigglies! Yes!
I would wrap myself in them like... like in a space suit!"

The metal antennas on his wiry hat suddenly start vibrating.

"Do you... do you have any metal wigglies?"

Showing ItemsEdit

"You won't be able to make it home via this road. You should build a rocket."

"Oh, I have one too! It's such a beautiful photograph..."

"These are the blueprints for my space rocket! Aaalmost ready.
I broke down a whole tractor to build it! Buuut I'm missing several parts. Several veeeery important parts... For example a shiny little mirror and this rectangular box with wires and..."

The boy suddenly becomes lost in thought.

"If only I had more tractors... I would definitely go to space."

"I had one just like this! I melted it into a perfect little ball, shaped like the moon!
I melt everything plastic into moons!"

Piotrek suddenly becomes excited.

"Aaaand... have you seen my VEHICLE?

It's ready. Well, almoooost ready. Just a couple of parts missing. I will need to find them. Aaaand I will have to repair the casing. The one from the spring that fell off recently... When I was entering the cockpit I hit my head aaaand... it... well, fell off.
I thought I was flying, but it was just that the lights went off."

"Beautiful... but I don't see Gagarin in it. I have never seen a photo without Gagarin in it before! Gagarin was this astronaut, a man who flew to the stars! I'll reach the stars too, one day!"

Piotrek stares at a blank spot for a few seconds.

"Maybe tomorrow, for example... I just need to find the screw for the cover."

"And what's this now...?"

Piotrek takes the game from you and turns it on. He's completely focused on the screen.

"So when I gather a bunch of eggs, the wolf will fly into space, right?"

  • Shake head

Piotrek frowns and muses.

"Then... Why is he grabbing all those eggs if he's not going into space? Makes no sense at all."

  • Nod

"In this case I MUST help him get all the eggs! Otherwise the wolf... He won't go into space and the game will be no good!"

Piotrek glances at me.

"Will you give me this game? The wolf NEEDS to go to space! I will help him!"

  • Shake head

Reluctantly, Piotrek gives me back the game.

"Please, gather the eggs for the wolf. He really wants to go to space!"

  • Nod

Piotrek sits on the wooden stool and leans over the tiny game screen.

"I will send him to the moon as quick as today!"

  • Quest items

"A hybrid rocket engine!

Wow! This will fit perfectly in my rocket!
Have you seen it?! Have you seen my rocket? It's almost as pretty as Gagarin's... Well, aaalmost. I just need to find some parts and it will be cooompletely ready.
Would you bring them to me? The other parts? I would then fly to space and to the Moon and to Mars and Jupiter and to the Sun... I mean... I would land at night"

The boy suddenly looks into my eyes.

"Look for old tractors. You will find the missing pieces for my rocket in them."

  • Second item

"Only two more to go!"

  • Third item

"I only need one more part!"

  • Fourth item

"Yay! Finally! I have everything I need!
Go your way now, go now, pleeeease, I need to install these parts in my beautiful rocket. And then... wheeee! Off I go! I will wave to you when I'm on my way to where no man has been before!"

"Hold door frame stabilizer!"

"Space rocket chassis!"

"Carbon dioxide exhaust system!"

"Advanced information display!"

"Trajectory guidance system!"

  • The cover

"I haven't slept a wink today. The whole night I thought about that large metal cover from the tractor. It's such a BEAUTIFUL cover! Ideal cover, no doubts about that. I mean, almost, because I would need to bend it a bit with a screwdriver and... It will shield me. From the space dust that is!"

Piotrek suddenly becomes sad.

"Space dust... space dust is everywhere."

  • The airplane

"I like to watch the stars at night. Sometimes you can see these bright, blinking spots. Those are spaceships and rockets, obviously.
The sky is awfully boring during the day. No stars, no ships, no rockets. Nothing. Only these white smoke trails.
I saw one yesterday. Over there, far above the tree tops! Dad used to say they were planes. But such long planes? It would be crazy to fly them..."

Trivia Edit

  • Piotrek is a common Polish first name.
  • Wolfman detests Piotrek, believing him to be a danger to everyone else. The reason for this is yet to be discovered, but may well be due to Piotrek's innocent, delusional thinking, which opposes to Wolfman's harsh and cynical view of the world he lives in.
  • All the quest pieces for building Piotrek's fantasy spaceship are drawn on the bottom left of the Blueprint.
  • In Alpha 6.0, Piotrek's Spaceship Quest was impossible to complete, as the Battery was no longer in the game. This had been made intentionally, as the developers worked in adding more to the game. In Alpha 7.1, the item was added back to the game, but appears in a tank at a Tank Wreck instead of any tractor.
  • Prior to Alpha 9, all 6 spaceship parts were required to complete Piotrek's quest. Since then, only 4 parts are required, though all 6 parts still exist in the game.
  • It is possible that Piotrek's obsession about space is a reference to an internet meme "Poland Cannot into Space".

  • His corpse can be found in the Junkyard even if the player helps Wolfman sabotage Piotrek's rocket.
