The Swamp Cottage, also called the Elephants' Cottage by some Characters, is a remote location on the Swamp biome. It is heavily barricaded, and has a backyard littered with Bear Traps, which must be carefully navigated by the player. The passive eye-monster from Hideout 4 can be found here; it can be used strategically by the player to light up the backyard, in order to reveal the location of said traps.

The only way to gain access to the interior of the cottage is to give some gasoline to its inhabitants, by pouring it into the Generator outside.

Characters

This cottage is home to the "Elephants", a family consisting of a woman and 2 children dressed in full protective suits (Hazmat suits reminiscent of the World War 2 era) with breathing hoses, and oxygen tanks. Their strange appearance is likely the reason for their nicknames. The mother, a fierce survivor, forbids her children from going outside, or breathing any of the 'contaminated air.' She argues that said air is the cause of all the mutations of the other inhabitants of the region. She claims that the Protagonist's muteness is caused by such a miasma. If her theories are correct, then she and her children may be the only "normal" inhabitants left.

Quests

One of the woman's children has gone missing, and the player must set out to find him, in exchange for her trust. This quest is a mandatory one, as it rewards the player with the Oxygen Tank, which must be used in order to beat Chapter 2.

The missing Child can be found on the Mushroom Glade, where the Mushroom Granny has taken him into her care. There are several ways of rescuing the child, for example fulfilling Granny's quest.

Once the child is rescued, the player will be automatically teleported back to the Swamp Cottage, symbolizing his trip back with the kid.
